Mountshannon to Holy Island

2.5 km one way – 50 min one way

A relatively sheltered short trail suitable for guided beginners and intermediate paddlers

Head right (south) from Mountshannon Bay, following the lake bank to Ryne Point (1 km). Stay within the chain of small islands as you cross the next bay, approaching near the small harbour. Locate the channel through the reeds, alongside a tree-lined island, to reach Holy Island.

There are several landing spots for kayaks on the island, including a small pier on the western side—though wellies are recommended as the pier can be muddy. Holy Island offers historical buildings to explore, as well as a lovely setting for a picnic and a short walk. A tranquil and culturally rich paddle!
