Abbey in East Galway, the village is home to Kilnalahan Abbey, from which it gets its name. The 13th century abbey is a unique part of Ireland’s monastic history, being the only Carthusian House in Ireland.
Not far from the abbey is Lady Well, a long-established holy well. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the well is believed to have healing properties. It is still visited by pilgrims and Mass is held here at certain times of the year.
