Bunratty Castle & Folk Park is a day visitor and evening experience not to be missed, 10 minutes from both Limerick City and Shannon Airport, the Park includes the Castle, the Folk Park and a Walled Garden. Bunratty Castle is built on the site of a Viking trading camp dating back to 970. The original castle was built in 1425, the present structure is the last of four castles to be built on the site. The castle was restored to its former glory in the mid-20th century is home to a unique collection of medieval artifacts which help to set the atmosphere for the visitor of how this medieval castle would have looked in. The Castle also hosts nightly Banquets with song, dance, food and drink from mediaeval times, helping the visitor to be part of a medieval castle experience. Beside the Castle the Folk Park has been restored to a village, from one hundred years ago, the park is set in over 26 acres and is the perfect opportunity to roam through the streetscape and farm buildings depicting life at the turn of the century in rural Ireland, as you witness everyday tasks being carried out. The park also boasts a formal Regency walled Garden adjacent to the Castle as well as informal gardens in the Folk Park which depict the horticultural activities in the early 2oth century. Bunratty village also boasts a number of quaint dining experiences, with lots to offer all ages.
