The charming village of Mountshannon, on the western shores of Lough Derg, is a popular holiday destination for families, anglers and cruisers. The relaxed atmosphere is all part of the appeal and while we can’t guarantee warm weather, you can be sure of a warm welcome.
During summer months the harbour area is full of life as everyone takes to the water by boat, kayak or paddle board. A separate, shallow swimming area, provides an ideal place for children to swim or splash about. There’s also plenty of space by the water’s edge to picnic or soak up the fantastic views.
The short boat ride out to nearby Inis Cealtra (Holy Island) is highly recommended. Those who take the trip will find several church ruins, a round tower and much more to explore on this 6th century monastic site.
Back in the village, enjoy stunning harbour views from the beautiful Aistear Park or check out the many heritage buildings. Afterwards, enjoy a pizza at The Snug, perhaps followed by some traditional music and a drink or two in the pub. Let’s just say, you’ll find all the ingredients for the perfect staycation right here!
