Killaloe to Twomilegate (Ballycuggeran)

5km one way – 3 hours 40 minutes one way

Suitable for guided beginners and independent intermediate paddlers

Start at the car park on the bridge in Killaloe and paddle upstream (north) through the canal. Pass under the pedestrian and road bridges, then portage around the small water barrier using the slip. Exit the canal onto the river and continue along the left (west) bank.

Watch for motor traffic near the entrances to two large marinas. As the river broadens near Brian Boru’s Fort (2 km), you’ll pass three small bays, houses, and private piers. Navigate around the narrow, tree-lined headland with pontoons along its edge, finishing the trail at the grass or pier area.

A scenic and historic paddle with plenty of interest along the way!
