Scarriff to Holy Island and Mountshannon via Scarriff Bay
9km one way – 3 hours one way
Suitable for intermediate paddlers with reasonable fitness
Depart the marina and turn right into the Scarriff River, keeping an eye out for motor cruiser traffic. Pass Reddan’s Pier (0.7 km) and a marina on the left bank before exiting the river (2.3 km).
Continue along the shoreline to Lucey’s Pier, a convenient finishing point if needed. Otherwise, paddle around the bay to reach the Holy Island Pier on the lake shore. From there, it’s a 250m crossing to Holy Island.
If weather permits, consider landing on the far side of the island, as the west side can be quite muddy. A scenic paddle with historical intrigue!
