Williamstown to llaunaboe Quay

8.75 km one way – 3 hr one way

Suitable for intermediate paddlers capable of self-rescue

Turn left (north) from Williamstown Harbour, passing private marinas and the public shore road (1 km). Explore several small bays along the way and look out for the two busts on navigation markers near the large island, Illaunmore (3 km).

Paddle past small islands and cross two, then a third, small bay—note that landing areas are limited in this section. Beyond the farmland, navigate carefully through reeds to find a narrow channel (7.3 km), about 1 km long, leading to the hidden Lough Alewnaghta.

Alternatively, continue north along the bank to a short reed channel that opens to a slipway and car park at Illaunaboe Quay (GPS: 52.992583, -8.354944). A route full of exploration and discovery!
