Inis Cealtra (Holy Island)
Holy Island, also known as Inis Cealtra, houses an ancient monastic settlement and the remnants of numerous small churches and a sacred well. The fact that monuments and artefacts here, dating back over 1,000 years, have been preserved so well is most likely due to their secluded island location.
It’s one of the most famous monastic sites in Ireland and includes a well-preserved Round Tower, the ruins of six churches and a bargaining stone where marriage vows are still renewed.
