Portumna Water Recreation Park to Portumna Forest Park

1.6 km to 6 km one way – 35 min to 2 hr one way

Suitable for intermediate paddlers

Start at the recreation park and paddle along the right (west) bank, crossing the entrance channel to Portumna Marina (0.5 km). Ahead lies the tree-lined shore of Portumna Forest Park with its charming bays and headlands.

At Rinmaher, the shoreline curves right into a bay with ten scattered islands. Avoid Church Island (the largest) from March to July to protect nesting White-Tailed Sea Eagles (stay at least 250m away).

Round the next headland to spot one of the forest park’s walking trails. If you plan to stop for lunch or a walk, download Coillte’s Portumna Forest Park map to guide your visit. A serene paddle with plenty to explore!
