Maccana – The Unseen Growth of Winter
Composer and producer Caomhán Maccana brings his debut national tour, The Unseen Growth of Winter, to Nenagh Arts Centre for an intimate evening of original piano music.
Presented as a live 70-minute recital, the programme highlights Maccana’s distinctive compositions, combining contemporary classical influences with a strong sense of place, atmosphere and personal expression. His music has been compared to that of composers including Erik Satie, Hania Rani and Arvo Pärt, creating soundscapes that are both contemplative and evocative.
Originally from the Irish borderlands, Maccana has spent more than two decades composing and producing music for drama, documentary and broadcast, working with organisations such as the BBC, RTÉ and Newstalk. His work has taken him throughout Ireland, Europe, North America and Mexico, and earned recognition at the 2025 Celtic Media Festival.
The performance features original works including Tras el Invierno, Athrú, Ven a Mí and Tonnta Dé, alongside music developed during an artistic residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. The programme also includes the title piece The Unseen Growth of Winter and Éan, composed in memory of Moya Brennan of Clannad.
A compelling evening of contemporary piano music, storytelling and atmosphere from one of Ireland’s most distinctive emerging composers.
