The countdown is ON for Birdhill Trad Fest!
Birdhill Trad Fest is just around the corner… and it’s shaping up to be some weekend!
Keep an eye on our page over the next few days as we reveal more of what’s to come over the weekend!
From Friday 14th to Sunday 16th August,
The village will be buzzing with great music, BBQ, grub and plenty of craic.
The marquee weekend line up:
– Friday 14th: Peter Burke — 10pm
-Saturday 15th: Keeper Lit — 10pm
-Sunday 16th: Martin Byrnes — 7pm
FURTHERMORE: BIRDHILL HISTORICAL WALK
Sun Aug 16th at 4.30pm as part of Birdhill Tradfest.
Meeting at The Old Barracks, the itinerary is -From ‘toll plaza’ to village: the turnpike road and the origin of Birdhill.
• The earliest recorded buildings: the old toll-house, 1806;Carey’s Inn, 1826.
• Opening of Stephen H. Atkins’ Inn, 1835.
• Competing carriages and inn-keepers: Carey v Atkins.
• The tenant that challenged his landlord – and won.
• From Atkins’ Inn to The Old Barracks
• From Murnane’s to The Coopers.
• From Hassett’s to Matt The Thresher’s.
• Birdhill’s competing creameries: Cleeves (1894-1921) and Birdhill Co-op (1914-1967. See you there
